WHO IS STEVEN BERNHARD?

At 27, I am still figuring out who Steven Bernhard is. However, that doesn't stop me from calling myself a photographer, retoucher and creative director, and I take these titles with the respect they imply and deserve. Regardless of labels, I am continually learning, facing challenges, and expressing my ideas in helpful and enjoyable ways to help others turn their ideas into something real.

Since childhood, moving around has been a constant in my life, teaching me to observe and learn from other cultures without fearing change. At 17, during a break from school, I went to New York with no expectations, risking the little money I had saved up so far. It was there that I discovered my passion: what had once seemed like a simple game to me could now become my living. That is how my professional journey began.

After that realisation, I quit my studies and returned to Madrid, the city where I grew up, to study art. I started assisting photographers whose work I had admired for a long time, and soon my first clients came along. My time as a student was short-lived, and I decided to stay. Ten years later, I am still grateful for the opportunities I have had and to all the people who believed in me: Sony Music, Warner Music Spain, Universal Music, NEO2 Magazine, Trident and Maybelline, among others, for being part of this adventure.

I am obsessed with light and everything around it. I always refer to it as my brush. This obsession, together with the perfectionism that comes with being Swiss, transforms the pressure of each project into motivation and a pure love for the work. I enjoy big teams and problems that don't have an obvious first solution.

After all that moving, at the start of 2026 I decided to settle in Geneva: somewhere calmer to build a long term life, just a couple of hours from almost any other city in Europe. I still travel wherever the work is, and I work in Spanish, French and English.

Right now, I am writing my first feature film, which is what I have been working towards from the beginning: telling stories and experimenting with different disciplines, eventually ending up on the big screen.

None of this may say much about me as a person, but at least it gives you an idea of who Steven Bernhard is.

A mis 27 años sigo sin saber quién es Steven Bernhard, pero hoy puedo definirme como fotógrafo profesional, retocador digital y director creativo, con el respeto que merece lo que representan estos estatus. Y, sobre todo, como alguien dispuesto a aprender y a afrontar cualquier reto nuevo: expresar lo que siento de la forma más divertida posible y ayudar a los demás a transformar sus ideas en un producto final.

De pequeño me mudé muchas veces y eso me enseñó a mirar sin miedo al cambio y a aprender de culturas distintas. A los 17, durante una pausa en mis estudios, decidí irme a Nueva York sin ninguna expectativa y arriesgando mis pocos ahorros. Allí encontré mi vocación: me di cuenta de que todo lo que para mí era un simple juego podía convertirse en mi profesión. Ahí empezó profesionalmente toda esta aventura.

Después de esa experiencia dejé los estudios oficialmente y volví a Madrid, la ciudad de mi infancia, para empezar mis estudios artísticos. Empecé asistiendo a fotógrafos que admiraba y pronto llegaron mis primeros clientes, por lo que la etapa de estudiante duró poco y decidí quedarme. Diez años más tarde solo puedo estar agradecido por las oportunidades y por toda la gente que ha confiado en mí: Sony Music, Warner Music Spain, Universal Music, NEO2 Magazine, Trident o Maybelline, entre muchos otros, forman parte del camino.

Estoy obsesionado con la luz y con todo lo que la rodea; siempre digo que es mi pincel. Esa obsesión, junto a un perfeccionismo que viene prácticamente en los genes suizos, hace que la presión de cada proyecto se transforme en motivación y en amor por el trabajo. Me gustan los equipos grandes y los problemas que no tienen solución evidente.

Después de tanto movimiento, a principios de 2026 decidí instalarme en Ginebra: un sitio más calmado donde construir a largo plazo y, sobre todo, a un par de horas de casi cualquier ciudad europea. Sigo viajando a donde haga falta, y trabajo indistintamente en español, francés e inglés.

Ahora mismo estoy escribiendo mi primer largometraje, que es hacia donde iba todo esto desde el principio: contar historias juntando todas las disciplinas posibles y acabar en una pantalla grande.

Puede que nada de esto me defina como persona, pero al menos os da una idea de quién es Steven Bernhard.

À 27 ans, je ne saurais toujours pas vous dire qui est Steven Bernhard. Cela ne m'empêche pas de me dire photographe, retoucheur et directeur créatif, et je porte ces titres avec le respect qu'ils méritent. Étiquettes mises à part, je continue d'apprendre, d'aller vers ce qui me résiste, et de dire ce que j'ai à dire de la manière la plus juste possible, en aidant les autres à faire aboutir leurs idées.

J'ai bougé toute mon enfance. Ça m'a appris à regarder, à prendre quelque chose de chaque culture, et à ne pas avoir peur du changement. À 17 ans, pendant une pause dans mes études, je suis parti à New York sans rien attendre, en misant le peu que j'avais mis de côté. C'est là que j'ai compris que ce que j'avais toujours pris pour un jeu pouvait devenir mon métier. Tout a vraiment commencé là.

Après ça, j'ai arrêté l'école et je suis rentré à Madrid, la ville où j'ai grandi, pour étudier l'art. J'ai commencé par assister des photographes que j'admirais depuis longtemps, et mes premiers clients sont arrivés très vite. Mes études n'ont pas duré. Je suis resté. Dix ans plus tard, je reste reconnaissant des occasions que j'ai eues et de tous ceux qui m'ont fait confiance : Sony Music, Warner Music Spain, Universal Music, NEO2 Magazine, Trident et Maybelline, entre autres.

La lumière m'obsède, et tout ce qui tourne autour. Je dis toujours que c'est mon pinceau. Cette obsession, avec un perfectionnisme que je mettrai sur le compte de mes origines suisses, transforme la pression d'un projet en moteur plutôt qu'en poids. J'aime les grandes équipes et les problèmes sans solution évidente.

Après toutes ces années à bouger, début 2026 j'ai décidé de m'installer à Genève, un endroit plus calme pour construire quelque chose de durable, à deux heures de presque toutes les villes d'Europe. Je voyage toujours là où est le travail, et je travaille en espagnol, en français et en anglais.

En ce moment, j'écris mon premier long métrage. C'est là que tout ça menait depuis le début : raconter des histoires en mêlant toutes les disciplines que je peux, et finir sur un grand écran.

Tout ça ne dit peut-être pas grand-chose de moi, mais ça vous donne au moins une idée de qui est Steven Bernhard.
